DUBAI — Dressed in a dark, grey suit and an elegant, printed silk scarf, United States First Lady Laura Bush flew into Dubai from Abu Dhabi yesterday afternoon in a private jet, amid tight security arrangements. Stepping out of the private jet at the Dubai Royal Airwing around 3.50pm, she waved to the crowd that had been eagerly waiting for her arrival.
The First Lady was given a red carpet welcome and received by Princess Haya bint Al Hussein, wife of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Accompanied by an entourage of US security personnel and embassy officials, including US Ambassador to the UAE, Michele J. Sison, Laura exchanged greetings with Princess Haya, American Consul-General in Dubai Paul Sutphin, and his wife, Cathy Sutphin.
She later headed for the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) with Princess Haya.
