Pictures of one of Dubai Municipality's upcoming big projects, Dubai Steps, has been recently released online with further details surfacing.
The Dubai Municipality previously made a vague announcement about the project in April, but recent pictures of the probable shape of the giant staircase emerged from the Dubai Media Office's Twitter account and revealed that the steps will soar 100 metres above the ground.
The exact location of the project, however, is still under talks. Union Square on the Deira side of Creek is among the preferred locations, but Dubai Steps can go somewhere else under Dubai Creek or Dubai Marina.
With its innovative design, the project, which will be a 25-storey structure consisting of 500 steps, will challenge sports enthusiasts and serve as a new tourism landmark in Dubai.
The structure will also be allocated to hold various events. According to a municipal official, the construction will take up to one year, serving as a continuation for vertical projects like Dubai Frame, which is currently under construction in Zabeel Park.
The official also pointed out that the giant staircase will not hold a large surface area as it will solely depend on base area only. The official also hinted that a large space will be dedicated for an outdoor sports club and different recreational events.
