Dubai-based charity, Beit Al Khair Society, is all set to spend Dh110 million on up to 25,000 low-income families, whose cases have been thoroughly studied nine months back, as part of its Ramadan campaign this year.
The Society announced that the promising campaign, called, 'They will be greatly rewarded', will help an array of destitute families and needy people all over the country.
These include 5,200 low-income families paid fixed monthly assistance, 1,900 orphans, 1,000 patients, 15,000 students, 500 special needs people, let alone thousands of emergency cases.
The annual campaign, prepared over the last eight months, has been launched since March 29 at the Society's branches in Dubai, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman, along with the Al Maktoum Foundation centres in Al Aweer, Al Barsha, Hatta, and Al Lisaili.
These are in addition to the over 100 licensed sites across the country where well-trained representatives are geared up to promote the programs under the campaign and receive public contributions.
Abdeen Taher Al Awadhi, Executive Manager of Beit Al Khair Society, said they are expected to collect Dh110 million this year, and plan to spend the same in three months.
"Such aspirations are based on the exceptional success of last year's drive when Dh107 million were spent on thousands of vulnerable people and emergency cases."
The campaign is in view of the 'Year of Giving' initiative launched by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the 'Emirates Food Bank' drive initiated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
"Beit Al Khair is to contribute 14,000 free meals on a daily basis this Ramadan, and is to spend Dh15 million on Foodstuff packages, and Dh15 million as Eid gifts and clothes," Al Awadhi told Khaleej Times.
Saeed Mubarak Al Mazrooei, Deputy Executive Manager of Beit Al Khair Society, said this Ramadan campaign is the biggest ever in the Society history.
"While Beit Al Khair spent Dh200 million on charity programmes all over last year, we are planning to spend Dh220 million this year."
Speaking to Khaleej Times, he added that the Society had spent over Dh1.5 billion on some 45,000 indigent families over the last 27 years in collaboration with more than 70 entities nationwide."
