Dubai’s support for FDI dental congress hailed

DUBAI—His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, received Dr Michele Aerden, President of the FDI World Dental Federation, who is currently on a visit to the UAE for the 2007 FDI Annual World Dental Congress scheduled to be held at the Dubai International ConventionExhibition Centre from October 24 to October 27, according to Wam.

On behalf of the dental federation, Aerden thanked Shaikh Mohammed for providing support and facilities for more than 20, 000 participants in the event and the accompanying exhibition which will be hosted by Dubai for the first time.

Present at the meeting were Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, Shaikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid, Chairman of the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone, Mohammed Al Gergawi, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Qadhi Saeed Al Marshoud, Director-General of Dubai Health Authority,

organisers of the event, JT Bernard, FDI executive director of FDI World Dental Federation.

Khaleej Times Reporter adds: A FDI Council meeting was presided over by Dr Aerden. It was attended by members of the council and Dr Ahmed Al Banna, Deputy Chairman of the Organising Committee and Chairman of Hospitality and Media Committees, FDIDubai 2007.

Dr Al Banna said: “The FDI Dubai 2007 Organising Committee led several high-level delegations to US, Canada, Singapore, Brazil, Russia, Saudi Arabia, China, Germany, Italy, France and organised Press conferences in India, Jordan, Syria, Libya, Tunis, Egypt and Bahrain. A total of Dh15 million was spent on the promotion of the congress through a series of roadshows, announcements through mass media, branding collaterals, etc.”

The Congress is expected to generate Dh150 million per day as tourism revenue for the city. The four-day Congress will also lead to a host of indirect long-term benefits to Dubai. The Congress, which has a membership of more than a million dentists worldwide, will see representations from 165 countries.
