The UAE Ministry of Health launched the National Immunisation Programme model on its new website at the Arab Health Exhibition on Monday. The service will also be linked to school health clinics that require immunisation records of students upon registration, Mother and Childcare Centres, all other immunisation providers on the district level and finally to the ministry’s Central Preventive Department.

Individuals registering with any of the ministry’s facilities will be assigned a unique login name and password that can be used to access online details of the next scheduled vaccination, any adverse events following the immunisation and even view and update their personal information and immunisation history.

They will receive both SMS and email reminders of their schedules and modifications, explained Dr Ibrahim Al Qadi, Director of Central Preventive Medicine at the ministry.

He said this electronic service will serve as a registry and it will automate the system for immunisation reports and statistics including for preventable diseases.

“This is a pilot project and we have plans to link it with similar initiatives at health authorities in other emirates as well,” he said.

Medical providers will be able to use the module to track and follow up on their clients’ immunisation status and manage their vaccines inventory for better planning to ensure vaccine availability as per schedule. The ministry will use the electronic records to generate regular statistical reports about health indicators for all immunisation-related activities, said Dr Qadi.
