Egyptian school shut down

DUBAI — The Ministry of Education and Youth (MoEY) has shut down a private shcool in Ras Al Khaimah.

The ministerial decree on the closure of the New Egyptian Private School in Ras Al Khaima Educational Zone was issued as the school was found to have been involved in continuous flouting of education ministry’s rules amid repeated warnings.

An official of the ministry told Khaleej Times that the school, which had been under administrative and financial supervision since last April, was granted a grace period to find the solutions to its problems but the owner of the school could not avail of the opportunity.

Meanwhile, Juma Al Salami, Assistant Under-Secretary at the Private Education Department of the ministry, said in a report submitted to Minister of Education and Youth Dr Abdul Aziz Al Sharhan that the financial situation of the school was not clear and the school’s bank accounts showed zero balance.

The report further said that the school shifted to a new location —Egyptian Community Club — in Ras Al Khaimah, which is not considered suitable for teaching purposes.

The report also said that the school had shifted to the Egyptian club premises without getting the ministry’s approval.

Also the owner of the school did not renew the licence which had expired on November 21, 2000, it said.

The report revealed that the new premises did not follow the standards and specifications set by the education ministry with regard to the school buildings.

Also, the school did not have a principal and there were no segregation for male and female students, it added.
