By early November, a delegation of the Emirates Human Rights Association (EHRA) will be prepared to partake in the hearing sessions on the trial of the 20 Egyptians allegedly accused of forming a secret group to try to seize power in the country.
The sittings will be held at the supreme federal court’s premises in Abu Dhabi.
The EHRA’s delegation includes Secretary General Khalid Al Houssani; members of the EHRA board Gamila Rashid Al Hamli, Mohamad Salim Al Kaabi; and Ali Salim Al Qeishi, Head of the Prisoners and Suspects’ Committee.
Once the hearing sessions have concluded, the delegation shall then write the necessary reports and release statements to be put forward to the bodies concerned in the country.
The local press shall be covering such a sensitive case, which is the second of its kind, as a total of 69 accused have been tried earlier for trying to seize power here.
Al Houssani hailed the participation of representatives of the civil society’s institutions in the trial hearings in the UAE led by the EHRA which is directly concerned in that matter, and which denotes how transparent the United Arab Emirates is; under the leadership of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It also reflects how credible the trials in such sensitive cases are, which touch upon the homeland’s security and safety.
Al Houssani added the UAE society unanimously trust the judicial institutions and their just rulings in prevailing justice and the rule of law in the country.
“The UAE is a state of law and its constitution enforces justice to whoever lives on its lands,” he said.
The role of the EHRA has been specified as to supervise the trial hearings and ascertain of the proper legal procedures as per the enforceable laws in the country, and coordinate with the pertinent civil society’s institutions in this regard on following up the trial of the accused.
