The Abu Dhabi Department of Transport’s master plan aims at reducing traffic congestion by providing integrated high-quality public transport services and enhanced passenger facilities across the emirate.

Saeed Al Hameli, general manager, Public Bus Office, Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi, said: “The Department of Transport is committed to developing a reliable, comfortable and integrated transport system for people across the emirate. One year on from the launch of our first buses, we continue to make improvements, with new routes, new facilities and increased service frequency. For the people of Al Ain, this is just the beginning.”

By the year-end, 100 buses will be running on Al Ain’s roads, each carrying the city’s orange livery. By the end of 2011, 350 buses will be in operation to ensure convenient frequency.

The buses are user-friendly for even people with special needs.

The new air-conditioned bus station in Al Ain will have a capacity for 114 passengers, and an additional 24 seats in the ‘women only’ waiting area. It will provide up-to-date route and timetable information, and have televisions and snacks stalls.

Last week also saw the launch of the new improved Al Ain-Abu Dhabi inter-city service, running every 30 minutes from 6am to 11pm.

Another three inter-city routes will be launched in 2010, connecting Al Ain with Abu Dhabi Airport, Dubai and Sharjah.
