“The electronic health information system will bring about a revolution in the way health services are provided in the country,” said the UAE Minister of Health, Humaid Muhammed Obaid Al Qutami, on Saturday after signing an agreement that allows DHCC to offer consultation services regarding the setting up of an integrated electronic health information system at MoH.

The agreement also allows DHCC to manage and advise the MoH in selecting a vendor of health information technology solutions.

According to the agreement, the selected vendor will enter into a long-term agreement with the ministry to upgrade the level of health information technology environment in the country's public medical facilities to world class standards.

This will also allow the ministry to improve the quality of healthcare services delivered to its patients and arrive at over-all efficiencies with its operations.

Al Qutami also said that the agreement was in line with the ministry's new course towards modernisation and development.

“This will transform the public medical sector in the country to unique international technical standards because it will be carried out under the supervision of Harvard Medical International and DHCC,” added the minister.

Ahmed Sharaf, senior vice-president of Tatweer for Healthcare and Energy signed on behalf of DHCC.

A special committee from both sides to be chaired by MoH will be set up to prepare the required studies for the agreement in terms of evaluating the current conditions and selecting the proper vendor to implement the project.

In addition, the MoU also calls for establishing advanced scientific research centres, reviewing and proposing medical and health legislation, unifying scientific resources and terminology, organising medical conference and attracting prominent international figures in the fields of science.
