Dubai-based Emirates NBD Bank on Wednesday issued new cheque book guidelines.
In an email sent to consumers, the bank said that new cheque books that will now be issued to account holders will only contain 10 leaves. Cheque books usually have 20 or more leaves.
"In view of a reduced need seen by customers to use cheques and the convenient and quick options available to make payments or carry out transfers, new cheque books that will be issued to individual customers will contain 10 leaves. This is also in line with the revised guidelines issued by the UAE Central Bank on cheque book issuances," the bank said in an email to its customers.
"Emirates NBD offers a wide range of options to help transfer money or make payments. Our digital platforms enable you to pay instantly utility bills and make payments to an extensive set of partners at no charge. Transfers to beneficiaries in the UAE can be done easily online with no fees and cash payments can be done instantly through our mePay service available on our mobile app as well as through our extensive ATM network. Direct debit instructions to make monthly payments for servicing loans or cards can be easily set up as well as standing instructions to facilitate regular payments," the email added.
