Emirates Post marks World Post Day

DUBAI - Emirates Post celebrated the World Post Day by felicitating the winners and participants of two postal competitions held during the yearas part of the worldwide celebrations today to mark the 129th anniversary of the founding of the Universal Postal Union (UPU).

The function held in Dubai yesterday was attended by Salem Al Shaya, Assistant Director General for Zones and Operations, Emirates Post, panel of judges for the two competitions, managers from the various post offices and zones of Emirates Post, winning students their teachers and supervisors and parents.

Addressing the gathering on behalf of Director General Abdullah Al Daboos, Mr Al Shaya said:"The World Post Day is a major event on the annual postal calendar.

"Ever since 22 countries assembled in Berne, Switzerland, to form UPU, 129 years ago, the Union has played a pivotal role in international postal affairs, formulating laws to ensure freedom in postal matters and fostering financial and cultural links between the member countries."

The celebrations concluded with the distribution of prizes and certificates to the winners and participants of the 32nd International Letter Writing Competition for Young People.
