Emirates Post opens 80th office

DUBAI — Emirates Post has opened a new post-office in Al Mudam area of Sharjah. This is the 80th post office in the Emirates Post network.

The new post office, located near the Al Mudam Square, opposite Al Mudam Police Station, was inaugurated by Mohammed bin Shaker, Assistant Director-General, Zones, Emirates Post, in the presence of Salem Obaid Al Mayala, Director of Al Mudam Municipality, Abdullah Salem Busamno, Director of 3rd Postal Zone and Mohaiyer Ali Salem, member of Al Mudam Municipality Council.

Health hazards for infants

DUBAI — Greater parental awareness can save children from the potential health hazards to infants caused by inappropriate sleeping surfaces. The firmness of a mattress when combined with other factors can affect a sleeping infant’s ease of breathing. The temperature and softness of the sleeping surface also affect the child’s blood flow, according to a research carried out by King Koil that produces premium quality mattresses. The research shows that awareness among mothers of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), or cot death, is low in the UAE.

Charter of media ethics

DUBAI — The Dubai Media Incorporation (DMI) announced the launch of Media Ethics Charter as a step towards corporate commitment to achieve highest standards of transparency, credibility and objectivity and reinforcing DMI's commitment to implement strict criteria of excellence, quality and reliability to be adhered by employees. Hussain Lootah, CEO of DMI said the Charter is in line with corporate responsibility towards the people and the adherence to truth that aims to serve the interest of people.

Donation of books

DUBAI — In the wake of DHL's continuous initiatives to connect cultures, DHL UAE, takes the lead by supporting Kenyan students' education. In the initiative, used books were donated from local students estimated to be in excess of Dh10,000. The books were collected from students and departments over the past year by the Emirates International Junior School in Dubai to be transported to St. Steven's Children's Home in Timau, Kenya. The contribution is aimed to promote cultural understanding between both communities while supporting the education process in the western African nation.

Enrolling kids with autism

SHARJAH — The possibility of enrolling autism children in schools with normal children was recently discussed during a recent meeting that was held by the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS). The meeting was headed by Shaikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Deputy Director of the Supreme Family Council and the General-Director of the SCHS and was attended by a members from the AGGC Autism Union in UAE. During the meeting a proposal urging the joining of autism and normal children in same schools was highlighted in addition to adjusting the curriculum so that it can be more suitable to autistic children. The meeting also discussed the distribution of health cards to autism children who are enrolled at the various autism centres operating in UAE.

Public speaking competition

DUBAI — The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) will host a public speaking competition on February 16, 2006 at its campus in Knowledge Village. The competition divided into six categories-Public Address, Impromptu speaking, Extempore, radio news reading and two categories of story telling, traditional and original, will be open to all graduates in the UAE.
