An Emirati man has donated Dh100,000 to help release Dubai prisoners with financial dues. This is the second time in two years that the businessman has made the Dh100,000 donation to Dubai Police to help free prisoners.
A Dubai Police official said on Sunday that the businessman donated the amount as part of the Tafreej Karba initiative that's designed to help prisoners.
Dr Mohammed Al Murr, director-general of the general department of human rights, commended the donation of the businessman, Yaqoub Al Ali. The donation is in line with the observation of 2018 as the Year of Zayed, said the officer.
He said the donation will be used to purchase air tickets for prisoners who are unable to travel to their home countries at the end of their jail terms.
Dr Al Murr praised the businessman's initiative that would "bring joy to the prisoners and their families". "It'd give the prisoners a chance to go back home and start their lives afresh."
