Currently, there are only five such centres operating in the country.

Officially opening the Dr Husnia Gargash Fertility, Gynaecology and Obstetrics Centre on Saturday, Dr Hanif Hassan Ali, UAE Minister of Health, said the government recently issued laws and regulations that would adjust and control practices on fertilization treatment in the public and private institutions.

The centre will offer services such as Ovulation Induction, Artificial Insemination, IVF, ICSI, PESA, TESA, TESE and Blastocyst Culture, Laser Assisted Hatching for fertility treatment.

“Costs of each treatment vary according to the procedures required,” said Dr Husnia, who was earlier the director of Dubai Fertility Centre.

“An IVF procedure costs Dh16,000 which is comparable with costs everywhere,” said the doctor who is a pioneer in the field of assisted reproduction and women’s healthcare in the region.

The centre also offers patients the facility of storing eggs and sperms through its Cryopreservation Unit.

The centre will also soon open a Genetic Analysis Laboratory with facilities and also offer Diagnosis of Genetic Diseases of the embryo by biopsy and FISH/PCR technique as a part of Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) or gender selection.

Earlier this year, the government had issued a law barring all fertility centres across the country to stop freezing embryos based on religious grounds.

Frozen embryos, the result of IVF treatments, are implanted into women who cannot conceive naturally.
