DUBAI — Dr Jamal Al Muhairi, Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Education, yesterday presented certificates to 25 emirati teachers from a number of public schools in the UAE for successfully completing the five-day 'Earn Team Leaders Programme' hosted by Zayed University in Dubai.
The programme organised under a Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) funding and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, aims at providing teachers with training and materials to integrate the Internet into the classroom.
The programme which consisted of a three-day workshop was followed by a two-day train-the-trainer programme in an effort to produce a cadre of public school teachers that use the Internet in their classrooms to work on projects and link with their US, regional and worldwide classroom counterparts, said Daliah Khalil, Programme coordinator for Egypt.
She said that as a result of the 'Earn Team Leaders Programme', a cadre of qualified trainers will be developed, linking UAE youth with a wide network of fellow students who are engaging in robust dialogue, working collaboratively on multidisciplinary, community outreach projects related to science and environment, English language, human rights and a wide range of other topics.
Earn's vision is to create the Internet as a place that can give voice to millions of the world's young people, so that they can be heard, rather than just sending them media images.
