ABU DHABI- The Emirates Telecommunications Corporation, Etisalat, has signed roaming agreements with over 276 mobile operators in 118 countries. According to the deals, GSM mobile customers can use their UAE mobile phones in almost every country in the world.
The roaming facility in mobile phones has changed the way people communicate while travelling as it enables one to make and receive calls, as well as send and receive local and international SMS text messages, without changing their phone or SIM card. Etisalat has been striving over the last few years to ensure that the UAE has a reliable GSM mobile network with coverage throughout the entire country, said Mohammed Al Fahim, Executive Vice-President, Marketing, Etisalat. "We have worked closely with our international counterparts to ensure that our customers can use their mobile anywhere. The roaming facility is available free of charge to all Wasel pre-paid customers. For most post-paid customers the service also comes free, but a refundable deposit is required to activate the facility for select customers.
"Once the service is activated, post-paid customers can use their mobile as usual while travelling, but they need to set their phones to automatically select a mobile network," Mr Al Fahim explained. Wasel pre-paid mobile customers need to ensure that they have sufficient credit on their phone before they travel. A convenient way to do this is to log on to www.etisalat4me.ae to recharge online from anywhere within the UAE. Wasel customers automatically receive incoming calls, but to make outgoing calls they need to dial * 111 * followed by the destination number, and # and send, to connect them to the desired number. For a list of countries where it is possible to use this service or an updated tariff guide, one can log on to www.etisalat.ae or call the Etisalat Contact Centre on 101.
