Exclusive interview with Emirati woman who saved man with abaya

Ras Al Khaimah - She rushed to rescue the man by putting out the flames with an abaya.

The young Emirati woman - who bravely saved an Asian driver from a fire by putting out the flames with an abaya - has been identified as Jawaher Saif Al Kumaiti. The blaze broke out after a collision between two trucks.
Jawaher, the 22-year-old woman, is originally based in Ajman. The Adnoc employee was visiting one of her friends at the Sheikh Khalifa hospital in Ras Al Khaimah, when she spotted the man on fire while driving her way back home.
Jawaher - which means jewels - did not think twice, stopped her car, took the abaya of her friend in her car and rushed to rescue the man by putting out the flames while covering him with the abaya.
"I was rattled to see the two burning trucks, and got shocked when I saw a man on fire screaming for help," Jawaher said.
"I requested my friend - who was with me in my car - to give her abaya and asked her to stay inside," she added.
"I immediately rushed to the driver, put out the flames and covered him with my friend's abaya. I calmed him down, telling him that he would survive as the rescue teams will arrive soon."
Strangely, there were some workers at the scene, but none interfered to rescue the man, she pointed out. "They were like mute spectators, looking at the man on fire who was screaming to save his life."
"The police patrols, ambulance and paramedics shortly arrived. They swung into action, provided first aid to the driver, and rushed him to the hospital."
The brave Emirati woman and her friend who boldly handed her abaya to rescue the driver drove away after ensuring that the man was in safe hands.
"All thanks and praise to Almighty Allah who gave me the power and courage to act and intervene into the situation at the right time and rescue the man's life."
The brave Emirati woman's story went viral on social media, and the RAK police are to honour her for her quick thinking as well as prompt and brave action.
Major Tariq Mohamed Al Sharhan, head of the ambulance and rescue section at the RAK police, said the victim, identified as H. Sing, managed to escape from the burning vehicle, but his clothes caught fire.
"As per the forensic report, the two drivers of the trucks involved in the traffic accident on the Martyrs Road suffered 40 to 50 per cent burns," he said. "They were shifted to the Sheikh Khalifa hospital and then to the Saqr Hospital."
