Major-General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, said on Thursday that the faulty exhaust fan caused a lot of heat which burnt the wires and the fire to the cartons at the warehouse storing home appliances.
The fire spread fast and engulfed the nearby warehouses.
The police questioned eight workers who were at the warehouses at the time.
They said they smelt something burning and opened the warehouses to see the cartons on fire.
Al Mazeina said the workers had been released on bail.
The forensic report will be referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution, he said.
Fire expert Mohammed Abu Aita said, “After we checked the exhaust fan, we found that it was subject to high heat source. It caught fire that spread to the cartons.”
He said all six warehouses were built in ‘U’ shape and there were no barriers between them which allowed the fire to spread easily.
