"Firefighters managed to control the fire in less than 30 minutes with the support of the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa), which supplied water. The Ajman Police helped in cordoning off the area," he added.
The cooling operations continued on Sunday and the site was handed over to fire experts of the forensic department of the Ajman Police to determine the cause.
Lt-Col Jamal Hassan, deputy officer of the Ajman Civil Defence, said the quick response to the accident contributed in preventing the fire from spreading to surrounding areas. "We will continue to carry out surprise inspections targeting warehouses that store flammable substances and ensure they are adhering to the fire safety regulations of the emirate. Erring companies will be fined and given a grace period to rectify their mistakes," he said.
He urged warehouse owners to keep emergency exits clear of objects as they hinder the work of firefighters during emergencies. "The owners must also ensure that they comply with fire safety and protection procedures and proper installation of electrical connections," he added.
