Union Bank of India is the fifth largest nationalised bank by assets with a pan-India presence. Established in 1919, it had its first head office inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation.
Union Bank offers products and services for retail, agriculture, MSME, large corporates and NRI customers through 4,085 branches, which includes three overseas branches and 6,877 ATMs (as on June 2015). It also operates a dedicated call centre operating 24/7 in nine languages and offers alternative channels like Internet banking and mobile banking. The bank has a business mix of Rs5.82 trillion, with deposits of Rs3.27 trillion and advances of Rs2.55 trillion (June 2015).
The bank has foreign branches in Hong Kong, Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), and Antwerp, Belgium, and a wholly owned subsidiary in London. It has representative offices in Shanghai, Beijing, Abu Dhabi and Sydney. Union Bank has positioned itself as a prime remittance service provider for expatriates.
The bank has a joint venture in life insurance - Star Union Dai-ichi Life Insurance Company - with the Bank of India and Dai-ichi Life Insurance Co of Japan. The bank's subsidiary for asset management business, Union KBC Asset Management Co, started operations in May 2011.
Union Bank was the first amongst large public sector banks to implement the 100 per cent core banking solution. Bringing more convenience to customers, the bank's 'UnionXperience' branches provide automated services such as self-service passbook printing, cheque deposits machine, phone banking hotline, etc.
The bank recently launched four digital initiatives: IMPS through branches; mobile passbook (M Passbook); missed call facility for mobile banking and account balance; and SMS-based value-added services.
