Blockbuster hit Dilwaale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge to be re-screened in UAE

Dubai: Indian movie director Aditya Chopra’s cult classic Dilwaale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge (DDLJ) has spent about 1,000 weeks of being a blockbuster hit. The movie which released in 1995, under the Yash Raj Films banner, catapulted actors Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan into super stardom, and scenes from the movie turned to become iconic moments in Indian cinema.

“I’ve seen DDLJ at least 100 times,” said Kannikka Abraham, a 21-year-old student residing in Karama. “I was only one year old when the movie released. But I love everything about it,” she added. When Kannika was told that the digitally restored version of the movie will be showcased in UAE theatres, she squealed in excitement and immediately started texting her friends about the screening. Needless to add, Kannikka and her friends will be attending the release. The movie will hit the screens of VOX cinemas across the UAE on February 12.

Ravi Mansukhlal, Marketing Manager – Mena, VOX said: “DDLJ just celebrated 1,000 weeks in India making it the longest running Bollywood movie. Even after 19 years of its release, it is considered the epitome of romance. It is appreciated by people of all generations and every time the movie runs on TV, it starts trending on Twitter which clearly shows people of all ages love it.” Advance ticket sales for the movie will begin 10-days before the release and people have shown a lot of interest in watching it on the big screen. He added: “This is why we think people will flock into the cinemas to watch this classic again on the big screen with the added feature of seeing it in high definition quality. Since we are re-releasing it on February 12, every ‘Raj’ or ‘Simran’ will definitely have this on their agenda for the Valentine weekend.”

Nelson D’Souza, Yash Raj Films, Head of Operations Mena told Khaleej Times: “DDLJ is a classic, we have had no problem in introducing the film to youngsters, it’s an eternal love story. So come fall in love again.” The film production company also plans on re-releasing all of YRF’s classics back into the theatres. D’souza stated that the movie will release in selected international territories this Valentine’s day – UAE, GCC, Pakistan, UK and US to start with. “We expect a lot of excitement among Indian cinema fans, be it Indians, Pakistanis and even Emaratis, the film and Shah Rukh Khan has a huge fan following. It will be nothing short of a celebration once it will be re-released here,” said D’souza.

Mansukhlal said: “Since the movie will release only for a limited period, we will open pre-bookings at least 10 days in advance. Movie-goers will be able to buy their tickets from VOX Cinemas Box Office, voxcinemas.com or the VOX mobile apps.” Timings of the movie are to be released soon.
