“There are heaps of clothes lying on the Pakistan Association premises. IDPs do not need them anymore. What they need is foodstuff that can be bought locally,” says Mobisher Rabbani, who is heading the Future Leaders of Pakistan (FLP) campaign along with The Rabbani Foundation, UK-based Human Relief Foundation and Pakistan-based NGO Thali.

A container loaded from Dubai may take upto five to seven days to berth at Karachi port while another day is required to distribute the items to camps near Islamabad.

“Feed a Family is currently the cheapest option,” says Mobisher. “A family can be adopted for a month for Pakistani Rs4,500 or Dh210.

“We say one month since we do not know the extent of the conflict,” says Mobisher, adding that cash can be donated to buy food packet that contains rice, pulses, spices, sugar, tea, milk powder, flour and oil.

Another option is an open packet that includes clothes for male/female, toys and shoes. FLP volunteers can reach out to those willing to help.

The total number of displaced Pakistanis registered by authorities with UNHCR has now reached more than 360,000.asmaalizain@khaleejtimes.com
