DUBAI — The Filipino communities in UAE collected 14 boxes of used clothes and two boxes of foodstuff for the super typhoon victims in Zambales, Philippines at a charity drive launched at the West Zone Supermarket in Karama.
The campaign, sponsored by the Filipino Off Road Auto Club (FORAC) in UAE, will continue for a week to shore up more donations of used clothing, blankets and towels for the victims of Typhoon Kiko that battered Zambales province in Northern Luzon killing dozens and leaving 1,946 families homeless.
Liza Concepcion, FORAC director, told Khaleej Times that ten jumbo boxes of relief goods weighing 380 kilos were shipped by Dubai-based courier, Makati Express, which sponsored the shipment of 100 kilos. “California Tourism also sponsored 60 kilos of used clothing, blankets and towels,” she said.
She said the ongoing campaign received two boxes of foodstuff from West Zone Supermarket and many donations from various Filipinos in Dubai, Sharjah and the other emirates.
“The second shipment will be done by Friday, August 21. Initially, we have targeted 20 boxes of relief goods, but it seems we will have more because on the first day alone, we have received 14 boxes, four of which have been collected from Filipino residences.”
Concepcion said that 73 teenage children of FORAC members in UAE have simultaneously launched a separate charity campaign in the Philippines for the Typhoon Kiko victims.
They have collected 11 sacks of rice, two boxes of noodles, two boxes of canned goods and four boxes of used clothing.
