Weak passwords, outdated software, and unencrypted communications create vulnerabilities that cybercriminals can exploit

A new website for the unified addressing system, 'Onwani', has been launched by the Abu Dhabi Municipality, in coordination with the Department of Municipal Affairs. The development of the addressing system will help residents and visitors find any location with ease.
Onwani is bilingual, with English and Arabic versions available. It has a friendly, welcoming feel to the way its content is arranged, and provides useful information about the Onwani addressing system.
The system allows address searches to be carried out, based on building numbers and street names in the UAE, and provides a route-finding facility, with provision for sharing routes with others via social media, such as Whatsapp Messenger and emails.
The website also features multiple tabs, presenting the latest news, media pages, frequently asked questions, information about QR codes, signs and panels, and a street map with a table, listing old and new street names.
The Department of Municipal Affairs has also launched an Onwani mobile app, which can be downloaded via the Apple store and Google Play. In addition to the capabilities of the website, the mobile app allows users to scan building QR codes, and share them with others via social media.
Scanning a QR code gives the user immediate access to details about the location, and points of interest nearby. The user can add these locations to favorites, saving them for future reference. The app's convenience allows people to reduce journey time in the event of an emergency, when needing to reach a hospital for example. The entire Emirate of Abu Dhabi will benefit from this app eventually, including Al Ain and the Western Region.
The most important features of the app include, the access to any location within the region, by entering the building number and street name, routing between two or more locations on a map, and also sharing location coordinates with others.
Residents may visit the website www.onwani.abudhabi.ae or phone 800555 for further information on the addressing system. reporters@khaleejtimes.com
