ABU DHABI — The Al Ain Police Directorate has provided shelter to the families hit by the fire that broke out in a building housing the Khaja Establishment warehouse on Thursday.

Major General Mohammed bin Al Awadi Al Menhali, Acting Director-General of the Police Operations Department of the Abu Dhabi Police, said the residents were evacuated before the firecould spread to other apartments in the building. The evacuees were accommodated in a hotel and they are properly looked after.

Col. Hamad Ajlan Al Amimi, Director of the Al Ain Police Directorate, said the residents will return to their homes after the maintenance work at the fire-affected building is completed. He appealed to landlords and owners of commercial buildings to comply with the fire safety rules and follow the prescribed standards of security and safety.

The should not turn their shops into warehouses. The should be located outside markets and commercial buildings and away from the city. Al Amimi said the people should promptly report such accidents to the authorities.
