DUBAI — The first phase of the Parallel Roads Project (parallel to Shaikh Zayed Road) is expected to be completed by February next year, the Roads and Transport Authority said yesterday.
Being built at a total cost of Dh600 million, the phase includes the construction of roads in Al Barsha and Al Quoz industrial area.
"The phase extends from the Jebel Ali Race Course till the Muscat Road," Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA, stated in a Press release.
Al Tayer also announced that the RTA had awarded the fifth contract of the project to the Sang Wang Co., a South Korean company. The fifth phase, said to be the most expensive, is worth Dh1.7 billion.
The Dh6.2 billion Parallel Roads Project is one of the biggest projects carried out by the RTA. Consisting of five phases, the road sector extends 108km from Shaikh Rashid Road in the north to the outskirts of Abu Dhabi. It includes bridges and intersections at the junctions of Parallel Roads with perpendicular roads in a sector extending 42km.
"The fifth phase consists of 10 sub-phases.The project also includes road improvements in the Business Bay Crossing and Burj Dubai areas, as well as construction of 30 bridges, two underpasses and 10km surface roads," added Al Tayer.
