AL AIN — Al Ain residents have complained that fish prices have been hiked during the first week of Ramadan.
Fish is a staple food for many in Al Ain and hence, fish sellers have increased the prices to exploit customers, they feel.
“Many fish traders forget that Ramadan is the month of mercy,” says Saeed Al Shamsy, a resident of Al Ain. According to him, the price of a standard Kanaad fish pack has jumped from Dh60 to Dh100 since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. He adds that it’s a bit strange because during this time people generally prefer lamb or chicken for iftar and souhoor.
“No Hamour fish in Al Ain markets. A regular shiery fish box here costs Dh 60, before Ramadan it was Dh 25,” says Shamsy.
