The UAE Flag Day celebrations will be held from November 3 to 7 with events including Flag Walkathon, operetta, radio contests, Flag City, 'Raise it High' campaign and social media competitions among others. Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan approved the plans for the five-day celebrations on Sunday .
Shaikh Nahyan said the ministry's celebrations under the slogan 'Raise it High. Raise it Proud' is aimed at everyone. The 'Raise it High' campaign aims to bring all sections of society under one banner to express their pride in the flag.
He said everyone should take part in the flag celebrations, as 'the flag is a symbol of union, pride, dignity and is the pride of every Emirati'.
The five-day activities start with the Flag Walkathon, which will see more than 2,000 people walking from Al Jazira Club to the National Theatre in Abu Dhabi.
Shaikh Nahyan will then hoist the UAE flag with the participants of the walkathon. He will then tour an exhibition of works done by UAE children and artists.
Also, the 'Flag operetta' by Emirati singers and Flag Songs album will be distributed to all institutions and clubs.
The ministry will also hold competitions on social media websites and a radio competition in more than four radio stations about the UAE flag, rulers and history.
Shaikh Nahyan said: "Our wise leadership represented by The President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, are keen to ensure that these national events become an opportunity to highlight the national spirit, support values of loyalty and belonging, promote community cohesion and national pride in our dear country and its flag."
"The celebrations this year revolve around the fact that we live under the flag of the UAE enjoying security, safety, prosperity and stability, allowing us to shape the future and support comprehensive development under our wise leadership," he said.
Shaikh Nahyan said the ministry aims to ensure active public participation in all programmes, whether in cultural centres or malls in Abu Dhabi and Dubai or through social media
