Five dilapidated houses razed

ABU DHABI — The Abu Dhabi Municipality recently demolished five dilapidated houses in Al Adla area for they were found to be unfit for housing people.

The move was in line with the directives of General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the UAE Armed Forces, in his capacity as Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive council.

Shaikh Mohammed had earlier ordered the demolition of 20 houses and maintenance of 50 others in the same area.

He had called for razing the dilapidated houses and compensate the affected owners immediately by giving them new houses, Salem Sultan Al Mamari, Executive Director for Municipal Services at the municipality, said.

The municipality would serve notices on the owners of the houses set for demolition.

The affected landlords, according to him, would be given a grace period of one month to vacate their houses and move in to the houses the government has granted them as replacement.

The municipality, in collaboration with the consultant, is currently assessing the maintenance works needed for 50 houses before entrusting the approved contractors with carrying out all the required works. —
