"Emirates flights to Beirut remain suspended up to and including May 15. We continue to monitor the situation closely," an Emirates Airlines spokesperson said.

Etihad Airways spokesperson Thomas Clarke said the airline's flights remained cancelled for Tuesday and Wednesday.

However, he said the airline continued to operate its largest aircraft, the A330-200, on the Damascus route with demand remaining high as people flee Lebanon travelling via Damascus.

Air Arabia public relations manager Housam Raydan confirmed its flights to Beirut continued to be cancelled.
