Roads leading up to Ibn Battuta Mall and pavements were flooded, slowing down traffic and access to the mall’s cinema area.
Slow-moving traffic at the main entrance to Discovery Gardens from Shaikh Zayed Road was clearly visible when Khaleej Times visited the area on Saturday evening. Waterlogged roads were causing confusion, as motorists were restricted to a single lane.
This is the second such incident within a month but both Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) and Nakheel did not respond to queries from Khaleej Times. Earlier last month, roads and parking areas near Ibn Battuta Mall were flooded due to a ‘breakage’ in one of the water pipes.
A mall visitor who did not wish to be named said, “There were no diversions or clear signs for motorists going to the mall. I had to eventually drive through the water-logged roads and reach the parking area. It would be better if they blocked access to those roads till the water was cleared.” -muaz@khaleejtimes.com
