Food outlets to be monitored in night hours also

ABU DHABI - Inspectors from the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) will carry out intensive checks at cafes and restaurants during peak hours and even at night, Khaleej Times has learnt.

'Our new schedules, especially for the holy month of Ramadan, include inspections during the night, and the number of inspectors will be increased depending on the requirement,' according to an ADFCA official.

When asked about the cafes and restaurant re-using the oil several times for frying foodstuff, he said, 'The Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) for the inspection parameters are carried out, including the checking of oil.

'Warning will be given if the quality of the oil does not match the specifications.'

When told that many people had started stocking up edible commodities for fear of price hike before and during Ramadan, the official said, 'We would urge consumers to follow the labeling instructions and the basic precautions regarding dood storage guidelines.'

During Ramadan, the food items available at food outlets will be especially monitored, he said.

A campaign, launched on August 1, is already on to monitor the quality of items being sold at sweet shops and bakeries, he stated.

During July, 17 outlets, including cafes, groceries and food outlets, were ordered closed for not adhering to the prescribed hygiene standards.
