Four Arabs were rescued from drowning off the beach of Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai's Umm Suqeim area. They were seriously injured.
Dubai Police received information that a group of people were drifted away by high waves and that they were struggling to get back to the shore. Police rescuers rushed to the beach, managed to rescue the men and provided first aid. The police said the four friends had gone to the beach on Saturday to swim and enjoy the weather. While they were swimming, a tide drew them deeper into the sea. A rescue team on boats, from the Dubai Maritime Rescue Department, rushed to the site and plunged into the water to pull them out. After giving first aid, they were taken to the hospital for treatment.
On Friday, three people died in Dubai in separate incidents involving two Sri Lankans and one Indian who drowned in the Umm Suqeim area near Burj Al Arab. Following the incidents, Dubai Police issued a warning to the beachgoers to remain extra cautious while venturing into the sea.
The Indian man was identified as 28-year-old Noushad, who hailed from the Malappuram district of Kerala. He used to work in a grocery in Al Barsha area of Dubai for the last eight years.
Police warn beachgoers
A senior officer with the Dubai Police warned that beachgoers should avoid swimming in the sea late at night as there are no life guards present at the beach at that time. They urged people to avoid swimming in the rough sea until weather conditions get better.
The police also asked beachgoers not to venture more than 300 to 500 metres into the sea to avoid exposure to strong waves and currents.
