Four men of different nationalities have been sentenced to life in prison by the Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court on charges of human trafficking.
The court, presided over by Chief Judge Sameh Shaker, also ordered another man to serve 10 years in prison for running a prostitution den.
Four Asian women involved in the same case were sentenced to three years in jail for being found guilty of prostitution.
Court records show that the case unfolded when two women managed to escape from the apartment-turned-brothel where the suspects locked them up in.
According to the prosecution, the duo sought help from their Asian friend, who is staying in another emirate, to find some jobs after they arrived in the country on a visit visa. The gang leader contacted them and offered them lucrative jobs.
The two women agreed to meet him in his company - which turned out to be an apartment where he and his men locked them up, assaulted them and forced them into prostitution.
The husband of the Asian friend, an Arab, immediately alerted the law enforcement bodies, which initiated investigations and arrested all the gang members. Investigations led the police to another apartment where some other young women, who were forced into prostitution , had been locked up.
The court found the first to the fourth suspects guilty of human trafficking and ordered them to serve a life sentence, while the seventh accused was sentenced to three years in jail for running a brothel, and the women defendants were given three-year jail terms for prostitution.
