DUBAI — Emirates Post has announced plans to replace all its mechanical franking machines used by companies for bulk mail, with the latest digital franking machines which can automatically feed, seal, imprint postage and stack uniform mail at speeds of up to 260 letter per minute.
The advanced technology to be launched by early next year will get big mailing jobs done quickly and efficiently, Khaled Ebrahim Shahdoor, Assistant Director-General Information Affairs at Emirates Post said recently.
Currently, around 1,000 big companies in the UAE are using the mechanical franking machine which can imprint postage stamps up to a certain volume only.
“But, with the advent of digital franking machine, there is no limit on volume allowing the client to reset the machine with postage volume simply on the phone, fax or internet,” he said.
“A client will no longer have to physically carry the franking machine to the postal counter to refill postage stamps of certain value,” explained Shahdoor, pointing out that in case of digital machines the postage volume can be refilled simply by phone, fax or through the internet, anywhere, anytime. Payment for the postage volume can be made through credit cards, through bank or advance payment, he informed.
He said clients will have the option to either replace the mechanical franking machine with digital machine or upgrade the existing machine as per the advanced technology.
Explaining the benefits of the new technology, Shahdoor said, “Processing speed of letter per minute will increase. The advanced detection sensors will allow perfect processing of hard-to-handle pieces like postcards, and advanced engineering with less moving parts will provide for long-term reliable operation.”
“The benefit to customers will increase and better control and management on clients machine will be maintained by Emirates Post,” he added.
