ABU DHABI — The General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Baniyas office, has designated a mosque in Baniyas to be the first one to deliver Friday sermons (Khutba) in English.
The mosque in Baniyas, located around 45km from the Capital, can accommodate 200 worshippers. Extension of English sermons to more mosques in Abu Dhabi and those in other emirates will be considered gradually as per the GAIAE’s strategic plans, according to Ali Khamees M. Al Saraidi, Director, GAIAE Baniyas Office.
This step is in line with authority’s strategic plan for 2011. The mosque is located 500 metres away from Al Mafraq Hospital and near the Doctors and Staff Housing. — anwar@khaleejtimes.com
