The action followed similar incidents in other emirates where several hundreds of Vimto bottles containing molds that could be seen with naked eyes were reported. The civic body in Dubai said the drink was manufactured in one of the GCC countries and distributed by a company in Dubai. A special technical team was formed to follow up the case and samples were collected and tested by this team, said the municipality. Following the discovery of high levels of fungi in the drink, 3,675 bottles with the same batch number were tracked through an electronic system and removed from the stores. However, the municipality’s Food Control Department, after communicating with the manufacturers, decided to recall all Vimto 250ml bottles as a precautionary measure.

Earlier reports said the drink with impurities was seized from Fujairah, Ajman, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah. One report quoted a senior official of the Ministry of Economy as saying that customers can report about contaminated drinks on 600522225.
