Fujairah is all set to build the biggest museum in the emirate and the Eastern Region. It is planned to be constructed in ancient Fujaih, in front of the monumental Fujairah Fort.
A traditional bazaar portraying old Fujairah markets will also be set up near the museum.
An international experienced house working in the field of museums, and under the directives of His Highness Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, will conduct the study on the setting up of the museum which will also include a number of development projects aimed at improving the heritage of the emirate.
The project is expected to live up to the archeological and historical position of the emirate which dates back to hundreds of years. The project will also help in creating job opportunities for the youth. “An amphitheatre that can accommodate up to 10,000 spectators will be built within the museum, where state-of-the-art technologies of lighting, laser shows and projection will be used,” said Saeed Al Samahi Director General of Fujairah Tourism and Antiquities Authority.
The final designs of the facility, according to him, will be carried out as per the perceived plan of the government of Fujairah, to match the large number of artifacts existing at the present museum.
The artifacts and other antiquities will be showcased using hi-tech methods, thus attracting local and foreign tourists, who often visit the emirate.
He added that the traditional bazaar will be reminiscent of old markets in the emirate.
Work is on in full swing on renovating the historical Dibba Fujairah Fort, and refurbishment of other forts will also be made.
The present Fujairah museum is one of the most important museums in the Eastern region. It houses more than 2,100 artifacts and rare antiquities unearthed in the emirate which date to BC, Islamic times, the early emergence of Islam as well as modern times.
