The robbers, armed with knives and swords, entered the house after midnight, tied up the residents and snatched their watches, mobile phones, credit cards and Dh5,000 in cash.

According to a police source, the men entered the accommodation, consisting of three rooms, occupied by 16 Indians who work in companies in Sharjah and Dubai.

Two others were visitors. Claiming to be CID officers, they told the residents that they had to carry out a search of the accommodation.

But when they realised that the residents were not convinced of their claim, they tied them up on chairs and beds.

Shajahan, one of the victims, told Khaleej Times, “We returned home late on Thursday night and after 10 minutes, the men knocked on our door. They claimed to be CID officers and said they wanted to check our papers and search the house. They entered and then tied all of us up with cables and took away all our belongings.”

The police official added that the victims called Al Gharb Police Station after they were released by a visitor who came in immediately after the gang had left the place.

Police officers from Al Gharb Police Station and Anjad rushed to the scene and recorded the statements of the victims and listed the valuables that the robbers decamped with.

The victims described the robbers as ‘stateless citizens’, who spoke in Arabic and were wearing ‘kanduras’.

The police source said investigations were on and efforts were being made to arrest the gang.
