A farmer family in central Serbia was devastated to find one of their hungry goats had chewed away their ?20,000 (over Dh83,000) fortune. This made the family so furious that they decided to take revenge by serving the goat to a bunch of journalists.
According to RT, the family from Ranilovic, a village near Arandjelovac in central Serbia, was saving to buy 10 hectares of land and expand their farm. But the family was left in ruins after their goat, named Belka, ate away all the money kept to pay the seller of a piece of land.
"We got up early and counted the money because the man we wanted to buy from was supposed to come. We put the money on the living room table, so we could sign the contract and pay the man, and went to the dining room to have breakfast," Milena Simic was quoted as saying in local news portal Arandjelovac Info.
Adding that her father-in-law forgot to lock the front door after putting the cash on a table, Simic added, "My father-in-law went outside to feed the cattle, like every morning, but he did not notice he'd left the front door open."
The hungry goat entered the house through the open door and began eating the money. "When we heard the noise, my husband got up to check and almost had a heart attack. Belka ate almost all the money! Only 300 euros or so was left, the rest was eaten or shredded," teary-eyed Simic said, adding, "Belka brought us [to] ruin."
Simic further said that her husband is so shattered by the loss that he has not spoken a word since the incident and just keeps staring at the wall all day.
The family then decided to get rid of the goat for shredding all their fortune and cooked it up and served it to local reporters who came to interview the family. "It was very tasty," reported Arandjelovac Info.
