The 16-year-old Emirati victim suffered wounds on his head and both hands and is under treatment in Saqr Hospital.
The police have detained his alleged assailant, also of the same age. The two students of Ras Al Khaimah Secondary School allegedly had an argument after school hours on Sunday afternoon, which continued in the classroom on Monday and snowballed into a scuffle. In the middle of the fight, the detainee took out a knife he carried to the school and stabbed the other thrice.
Major Salem Rabih, head of City Policing, said a police team rushed to the school after the school administration informed them about violence between two students and took the alleged assailant into custody.
The detained boy admitted to acting violently against his compatriot by stabbing him thrice times using a knife. He claimed that the victim had provoked him and tried to tear his exercise book in the classroom.
Major Rabih said that they have referred the case to the authorities concerned and legal action would be taken against the detained boy for carrying a knife to the classroom and resorting to violence against his classmate.
He warned youngsters against resorting to violence like fighting and using sharp and dangerous weapons like knives against their peers which may result in injuries or even death.
According to Major Rabih, the Ras Al Khaimah Police had conducted a campaign against violence in schools across the emirate last month with the aim of promoting good discipline and morals among students and encouraging students to avoid bad behaviour.
