Metro travel has become more easy with the Green Line route going up on Google Maps. The digital trip has been made possible following an agreement between the Roads and Transport Authority and Google Inc.

Some features will be in 3D. Visitors to Dubai can now plan their daily travel in advance by using the RTA Journey Planner (Wojhati) which will eventually integrate the various mass transit systems such as the metro, public buses, water bus and water taxi.

Abdullah Al Madani, CEO of RTA Corporate Technical Support Services Sector, said: “Following its launch on September 9, the Metro Green Line has been uploaded on Google Maps to enable users plan in advance their daily travels on all RTA public transport means, thus enabling smooth, speedy and accurate mobility to the intended destinations.’’

“This service enables users of various types of public transport in Dubai Emirate plan their daily travels in a smooth and easy manner at any time they wish through Google Maps portal (www.maps.google.com) on their computers or smart phones. The routes of the proposed journey will then be displayed with full details, schedules and fare of each journey depending on the point of origin, destination and timing of the journey.’’

This has made Dubai join the ranks 50 other cities.

“The transit information uploaded on Google Maps reflects our vision of offering users the information that assists them in their daily life. The ability to track the optimal daily travelling routes through the computer of mobile phone is an invaluable tool for users throughout Dubai Emirate,” added Al Madani. RTA had signed an agreement with Google Inc (Middle East) in 2009 to put the bus system on Google Maps. —news@khaleejtimes.com
