H1N1, Accidents on Morocco Regional Meet Agenda

DUBAI — Policies to counter the spread of H1N1, as well as reducing the burden of road traffic accidents and cancer in the region will be among the top issues to be discussed at the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office meeting that starts in Morocco today.

Margaret Chan, Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) will also be attending the meetings.

A high level delegation comprising the UAE Minister of Health, Dr Hanif Hassan, Executive Director of Medical Policies, Dr Mahmoud Fikri, Director of External Relations and International Health, Nasser Khalifa Badoor and Advisor at the ministry, Dr Nariman Al Mulla are representing the UAE at the 56th session of the Regional Committee for EMRO meeting.

The health body has dedicated the first day of the session to H1N1, and the UAE delegation is expected to deliberate on the challenges in combating infectious diseases and the use of new technologies.

The meetings will also address road traffic accidents and the resulting deaths and injuries in the region. According to the UN Global Status Report on Road Safety released in June, the UAE roads are among the deadliest.
