The file will be maintained by the medical team associated with the mission and will list the health status of each pilgrim before and after Haj, said a senior health official on Sunday.

The ministry has already informed the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowment that overlooks the UAE Haj missions each year.

“The health file shall be registered in the UAE hospitals,” said Dr Abdul Karim Al Zarooni, Head of the Pilgrimage Medical Committee. “This will ensure the safety and health of each pilgrim before, during and after Haj. This will also ensure that the correct treatment is being provided to the patients during the pilgrimage,” he added. Dr Zarooni, who is also the Director of Health Advertisements at the ministry, said that doctors at the mission would check pilgrims for any illnesses, offer treatment and even follow-up with the patients.

“The doctor will be fully responsible for the health status of each pilgrim from the start of the journey until the pilgrims return to the UAE.”

Pilgrims are also required to be vaccinated against meningitis before embarking on the journey.
