Shaikh Hamad made these remarks at the annual meeting with journalists working in Fujairah. The latter had called on him to wish Ramadan Kareem.
The meeting was also attended by Shaikh Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, Deputy Ruler of Fujairah, Shaikh Saif bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, Chairman of Fujairah Free Zone Authority, Shaikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, Director of e-Government, and a number of Shaikhs and officials in the emirate.
Shaikh Hamad said journalists working in the print and audio-visual media in the emirate should take advantage of the healthy atmosphere of freedom prevailing in Fujairah in particular and the UAE in general, to highlight the vital and crucial issues concerning the common masses with objectivity and transparency.
Shaikh Hamad said there was need to make amendments in the Press law, which should keep in line with the rapid progress and development being witnessed in the UAE.
“The present law was perhaps fit for the 70’s and the 80’s, but it has to keep pace with the developments of the 21st century,” he said.
Shaikh Hamad said the media in the UAE is witnessing a ‘quality boom’, and has always been backed by the government, as well as all the segments of the society for its role as a source for precise information.
Shaikh Hamad also praised the Fujairah Broadcasting Service and described its programmes and news bulletins as ‘very good’.
