Hearing adjourned in money snatching case against three

DUBAI - The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance on Sunday adjourned the hearing in a case of stealing to August 27 to appoint a translator for the three Ethiopian defendants.

The three Ethiopian visitors, whose ages range from 29 to 37, are accused of stealing Dh10,000 from a Pakistani in Al Qusais on May 22 this year. The 30-year-old complainant said during interrogation that he was waiting for a taxi around 11.30am in Sharjah to go to Al Hamriya area in Dubai on that day.

"A car with three Africans inside stopped near me. The driver offered to give me a lift to Al Hamriya for just Dh10. I got inside and sat in the back seat. Instead of driving towards Al Hamriya, the driver headed towards the cattle market in Dubai saying he had to drop one of the occupants," the complainant said.

"When we reached Al Qusais area, the man sitting next to me grabbed me and took Dh10,000, which was my end-of-service gratuity and salary, from my pocket. Then he pushed me out of the car and the group fled the scene," he added.

He lodged a complaint with the Al Qusais police station.
