Dr Oxford is the Professor and Director of the Second Language Education Programme at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Addressing the opening session of the weeklong training programme, Dr Abdullah Al Khanbashi, UGRU Director, updated the faculty on the progress made towards the unit's goal of becoming an exemplary developmental programme.

"Over the past year, UGRU has incorporated a number of changes in its curricula to promote the development of individuals with the life-long learning and thinking skills essential to life in our rapidly changing world," he said. After her speech, Dr Oxford ran a series of workshops for instructors at the University Social Club, Al Mutaqa.
