Historical buildings show opens in city

DUBAI — A mobile photo and model exhibition on historical buildings of Dubai was inaugurated recently by Ahmad Mahmoud, Head of the Historical Buildings Section of Dubai Municipality.

With participation from 45 schools for both boys and girls and universities, the exhibition throws light on the history and heritage of the ancestors of the contemporary UAE generations. The exhibition commenced on February 19 and will continue till April 20, 2005.

The exhibition features numerous photos of renovated historical buildings, Arabic calligraphy, fine art portraits, old photos from veteran photographers, herbal medicines, models of Al Fahidi fortress, the house of heritage, Shaikh Saeed Al Maktoum's house, Shindagha area, Hatta village, defence towers in Dubai, and magnified models of traditional gates, gypsum and decor works. Various lectures are also being delivered and a cultural documentary also forms part of the exhibits.

Mahmoud declared that the municipality is exerting extensive efforts to maintain Dubai's heritage buildings, which are of utmost significance to the people of the UAE. The architectural, plastic arts and old decor elements remained unaltered and were done with meticulous detail, he elaborated.

The civic body is aware of the significance of first-class services achieved by implementing numerous major projects and the widespread dissemination of cultural information realised through maintaining the cultural and historical heritage and turning it into a tourist attraction. This is achieved via local and international exhibitions and competitions, as well as media and audio-visual information, he added.
