Dr Kassam Alom, Managing Director of Al Noor Hospital, said: "It is in response to the massive humanitarian support needed from the world community for the victims of the earthquake and to assist the UAE Red Crescent Society in its endeavours to provide medical assistance to the tens of thousands injured, and on the direction of the President, His Highness Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, to share the pain and agony of Iranian brethren".
He called it as a humble effort to help out victims of a tragedy that left tens of thousands dead and shelter less. He said that a team of consultants and paramedics is leaving for the Iranian city of Bam along with necessary medical equipment, heating facilities, cloths and other materials, which are required by the hosting hospitals there.
Dr Kassem Alom appealed to local physicians and nursing staff to volunteer to attend to this grave situation.
He said medicines worth more than Dh500,000 have been collected which are being sent today as an initial aid consignment in coordination with the UAE Red Crescent Society.
