Hospital will facilitate medical and nursing education: German official

DUBAI — The MoU signed between Klinikum Stuttgart and Cedars Jebel Ali International Hospital will facilitate cooperation in treatment of patients, besides upgrading the education of nurses, Klaus-Peter Murawski, Mayor of Health, Stuttgart Province in Germany, said yesterday.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, the mayor, who was in Dubai to sign the MoU with Cedars JAIH, said: "Under the agreement, an accredited university hospital will be established at Cedars JAIH which will provide medical care in various specialties. It will also provide medical care and postgraduate medical education and training to nurses and paramedics according to the standards set by Klinikum Stuttgart."

Highlighting the main interest of the government of Baden Württemberg, Murawski said that plans were underway to establish a German Medical Equipment Industrial Complex at the Jebel Ali Free Zone which will initially be a service and training hub. This will be further developed into a manufacturing complex to service the Mid-Eastern, African and Far-Eastern regions.

Murawski said a postgraduate nursing school to upgrade the skills of nurses and help them pass licensing exams will be set up at the university as well as a postgraduate technical training school for paramedical technicians in the field of radiology, laboratory technology and other bio-medical and related technologies.

He said that all patients of Cedars JAIH who cannot be treated at the hospital will be referred to the Klinikum Stuttgart for further treatment.

Giving details, he said that the university accredited hospital will have 150 beds in the first phase while Klinikum Stuttgart will provide specialists in various medical specialties, postgraduate university accredited training to its resident doctors and also provide updated expertise for hospital administration.
